	Born Charles Hardin Holley. Nicknamed Buddy by his mother, who claimed his given name was "too long for such a small boy." Began playing piano and violin at age four and guitar at eight. Changed Holley to Holly because of a mistake in a contract, 1956. Married Maria Elena Santiago after proposing on first date, 1958.
